The Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor airport hotel

When I visited Boston for the inaugural flight of Delta Air Lines’ new A321neo aircraft, I split my time across two hotels. The first was the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor not far from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

I used an anniversary night certificate from my World of Hyatt Credit Card (learn more) to pay for the room. I originally planned to stay two nights: one on points and the other with the cert. But a couple of friends (also taking the inaugural A321neo ride) told me they’d be at the Marriott Long Wharf, so I decided to join them for night number two.

So, without any more ado, here’s my experience during my brief stay.

The Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor offers a shuttle to/from Boston Logan.

Delta passengers: you’ll meet it at door A204. It’s on the arrivals level and also where Delta Sky Priority members may enter the terminal.

It’s free — and I got what I paid for.

I had to call twice to summon the shuttle. So, I waited about a half-hour to finally get a ride. Granted, this was around 11:30 PM. An elderly couple we picked up at a different terminal complained to the driver that they, too, had to call the hotel a couple of times before getting the shuttle to show up.

The front desk was polite and welcoming. Behind them was a shelf with four or five mini-bottles of liquor, some beers, and some wines. Why? Well, the hotel bar closes at 11 PM. So, if you need to get a quick fix, the front desk will sell you booze.

But prepared to go on a hunt for ice if you enjoy your beverages on the rocks.

It should be noted there’s no Regency Club Lounge at this property.

My free night certificate got me a king bedroom.

No complaints here about the bed. (I’ve never really had a bad bed experience at a Hyatt.) My room didn’t have any USB charging ports — so make sure you bring adapters for your electronic devices.

The windows have sort of a blue tint to them. Here’s the view I had of Boston Harbor on the cloudy, damp morning I departed.

I used a little Photoshoppery to get a more realistic color scheme of the harbor.

The bathroom was nice. Good water pressure, clean, good towels. Hyatt hasn’t (yet) jumped on the wall-mounted toiletry bandwagon like Marriott and IHG.

Some of the rooms (and the elevator lobbies) have a view of operations at Logan. Here’s runway 14. (Don’t worry: it can only be used from takeoffs from 14 and landings from the other end, runway 32!)

I went to bed around 1:30 AM and enjoyed sleeping in. Here’s the problem: the restaurant closes at 10:30 AM and doesn’t reopen until 5:00 PM. So, by the time I showered, and got ready to leave, there was nowhere on property to eat a late breakfast or early lunch. Oh, and there’s currently no room service available.

So, I grabbed my bags and checked out. This wasn’t exactly a tragedy as I was in Boston — and there’s plenty of great food to be enjoyed.

You can take a taxi, Uber, Lyft, etc. to downtown Boston. Or do what I did (weather permitting): ride a water taxi ($15) across the harbor and disembark at the aquarium!

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor because I had a free night certificate to burn and wanted someplace close to the airport. Plus, I like Hyatts and figure it’d be worth a review!

The room was nice enough. But I wasn’t overly impressed. The airport shuttle’s tardiness wasn’t a great way to start my experience. The restaurant and bar hours also leave much to be desired.

That said, the staff was kind and helpful.

But I don’t think I’ll visit the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor again.

Thanks for the review – I live in the neighborhood and have had drinks on the patio but have never actually stayed here. I’m sorry the experience wasn’t better. I’ve always wanted it to be good enough to recommend to visitors since it’s convenient to the airport (probably the second most convenient after the Hilton) and it also has the city views and is directly on the Harborwalk, so it’s a shame it’s not that great.

While this doesn’t help a traveler who is unfamiliar with the area and/or traveling with a bunch of luggage, it’s almost worth just skipping the shuttle and walking to the hotel from Terminal A. It’s under 15 minutes on foot and it’s almost entirely along the Harborwalk (a paved, well-lit/well-traveled recreational path) which is safe, easy, and relatively pleasant. On the other hand, the proximity makes it extra frustrating that the shuttle takes so long to show up.

Thanks for the comment, Jon! Some of the pictures I saw of the property make it look like a great place to hang out in the evening (i.e., those drinks on the patio, etc.). Even though it was a cloudy, wet morning, the views of the city were pretty nice. For a Hyatt, it’s just kinda meh.

Note that if you want to work in your room here there’s no desk to comfortably sit and work on a laptop.
