This week on Crafting with the Katies as a “Part 2” to our propagation how-to, we’re going to show you how to make a DIY hanging macramé plant holder.

For this craft, you’ll need:

Here are the steps to creating your perfectly 70’s inspired macramé plant holder:

Step 1: Cut your rope into 4 equal-sized strands. We made ours around 4 ft long. If you know you have a bigger pot, make your strands longer. If you have a smaller pot, make your strands shorter.

Step 2: When you have your four strands, fold them in half. Slip the folded part into the wooden hoop. Gather the other end and pull through to secure the strands to your hoop.

Step 3: Lay your strands and hoop down, and use painter’s tape to secure it to a table or wall.

Step 4: Pair off every other strand of rope and tie them together. You should have 4 strands altogether.

Step 5: Split up the two outside ropes and tape them off to the sides.

Step 6: Make a “V” with the remaining ropes, then tie the alternating ropes together at an even length.

Step 7: Tie the outer ropes together. This creates a cylinder.

Step 8: Gather the end of all the ropes and tie them all into a giant knot. This is what your pot will hang on.

Optional step 9: Cut the ends of your macramé plant holder to make them even, and unweave the ends of the plant holder to make a pom pom poof ball at the ends.
