EDGE announced it has been selected to renovate a custom estate on Chinaberry Way within the prestigious Grey Oaks community. The lead interior designer for this renovation is Adriene M. Ged of EDGE, working closely with architect Karen Velasco Carter. Construction is being performed by Diamond Custom Homes.

“The original home had a heavy Tuscan design with a closed-in layout, original Turkish travertine marble flooring, carpeted bedrooms and extensive arches throughout both its interior and exterior,” said Ms. Ged. “The new design will be what is called a ‘Med-mod’ (Mediterranean modern) style featuring traditional characteristics of a Mediterranean home with clean, modern elements. I am pleased by the opportunity to work on this significant project in partnership with Karen Velasco-Carter of Diamond Custom Homes.”

Built in 2003, the residence includes 3,925 square feet of air-conditioned living area and 5,562 total square feet in one living level with three bedrooms, three full baths, two halfbaths, study, and spacious outdoor living area.

The clients enjoy the Grey Oaks community; however, no buildable homesites remain. Since the home has a good foundation, new driveway and roof, the clients decided to renovate the existing residence.

Ms. Ged incorporated a contrasting black and white color palette throughout, complimenting the warmer tones in the existing roof and driveway colors, and the interior wood flooring selection.

The team demolished the interior decorative columns and Venetian style plaster-arched, decorative ceilings in the foyer, replacing them with clean drywall-reversed soffit beams while retaining some elements of the Mediterranean look. The travertine marble flooring was removed and replaced with warm, Legno Bastoneâ wide plank flooring. All bathrooms will feature neutral, clean white marble tile throughout. Plumbing and lighting will be updated from traditional polished brass fixtures to black and chrome fixtures. The furniture will be comfortable, casual, familyand pet-friendly.

The original family room, located off the kitchen, is being converted to a new bar with a custom open display and upper cabinets in a charcoal oak finish.

The original dining room will be converted to a study or flex space, creating an area for the client’s family to socialize with guests and friends. This area will also include a custom built-in with contrasting finished back panels, wood countertop, file cabinet drawers and LED-lit floating shelves.

The redesigned kitchen will include a full height slab backsplash through to the bar area, offering a clean, consistent look throughout by using a single material. The cabinetry will be very clean and contemporary. The appliance wall will include white and black cabinetry. The island, upper glass cabinets and kitchen range hood will be natural walnut. The wine room will feature a vintage wine rack system, varnish wood countertop and an open display for bottle storage. The bar will include a thick waterfall countertop with sleek black cabinetry. Original French doors located off the main area, where the current bar is, will now be large sliders opening to the outdoor kitchen.

To accommodate the clients’ wishes for a larger master bathroom and exercise space as part of the master suite, the team is redesigning the entire original study and powder room areas. Space from the study has been added to the master bathroom, with the powder bath redesigned to accommodate the new layout. The master bathroom will have a European style shower, as well as floating vanities and matching towers with clean white cabinetry. A home gym will also be added to the master suite.

The outdoor living area will feature a tongue-and-groove ceiling, full outdoor kitchen and fully redesigned pool. The outdoor living area will feature a fire pit overlooking the 18th hole of the Palm Course, as well as a peninsula bar.

The project began in May 2022 and is scheduled for completion in August. ¦
