Brilliantly enriching the world through design and connecting it from a unique point of view while discovering new values and expressions, Japan-based WD innovatively fabricates ‘Parachute’ – a one-of-a-kind universal wall shelf cleverly holding anything in place.

The idea for the Parachute wall shelf came to me, funnily enough, as I was listening to Coldplay’s first album titled “Parachutes”.

Derived from the Italian word “parare” (to protect) and the French “chute” (to fall) – its design is influenced by how clothes-pegs secure objects on a clothesline by clipping onto them” says Yusuke Watanabe, CEO and designer WD.

Skillfully crafted from refreshingly vibrant colored sheet-metal stripes that almost resembles a parachute’s cloth with their wavy design, this minimalistic eclectic product effortlessly looks like a piece of abstract art when not in use.

The multiple pegs or planks on it seamlessly holds one’s objects in place by gently ‘clipping’ them to the wall.

“It sits flat against the wall – unlike most shelves with cantilever forwards – looking like framed art until one tips one of the pegs forward and utilizes it to store products or to even hang items from coats to scarves or even hats!” Watanabe adds.
