"Flying Blind: The 737 Max Tragedy and the Fall of Boeing"

"How to Say Hello to a Worm"

What's new at Jacksonville Public Library:

"Fake" by Erica Katz: Erika Caan is a fake. She is a copier who has become so good at duplicating 19th century artworks that her versions often are passed off as originals. But she is not a criminal; her paintings are commissioned by museums and ultra-wealthy collectors protecting their investments. This gripping novel set in the high-stakes world of art forgery moves from the trendy art galleries of Manhattan to the high-flying international art fairs of Hong Kong.

"Flying Blind: The 737 Max Tragedy and the Fall of Boeing" by Peter Robison: Boeing is a century-old titan of industry. It played a major role in the early days of commercial flight, World War II bombing missions, and moon landings. But in 2018 and 2019, two crashes exposed a shocking pattern of malfeasance, leading to one of the costliest corporate scandals ever. "Flying Blind" is the definitive expose of the disasters that transfixed the world.

"The Card Counter": An ex-military interrogator turned gambler is haunted by the ghosts of his past decisions. Redemption is the long game in this revenge thriller featuring riveting performance from stars Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish and Tye Sheridan.

"When We Were Them" by Laura Taylor Namey: This young adult novel chronicles the friendship of three high school seniors. With graduation quickly approaching, Willa can’t help but look back on their shared memories. In the years before they turned 18, the three had been inseparable. But that was before Willa ruined everything. Now, feeling desperate to find a way back to Luz, Britton and what they once had together, Willa must face the consequences of her actions.

"How to Say Hello to a Worm: A First Guide to the Outside" by Kari Percival: This is sweet book that introduces young readers to the joy and magic of planting and caring for a garden. A group of kids works together to plant fruits and vegetables while learning about other creatures that call the garden home.

Jacksonville Public Library will present the Zoom-based program “Prohibition” at 2 p.m. March 27. Professor Gary Midkiff will examine the intense national lobbying effort launched by the Anti Anti Saloon League, the gallant effort of the Untouchables and the political careers affected by support for the “Wets” or the “Drys.” The program can be viewed at home or in-person at the library. For a Zoom link, email Courtney Langdon at clangdon@jaxpl.org.
